Its name is legendary, for International Harvester was first in reliable, sturdy farm equipment and later in commercial trucks. In the early part of the century, International Harvester produced a line of trucks, busses and express wagons. In 1921, the company introduced the famous S-series line of trucks, also known as "Red Babies," which became greatly popular with farmers. By the late 1920s only Chevy and Ford were selling more trucks than International Harvester. Using alphabetical designations for its new series in the 1930s, the 1934 C-series International Harvester light-duty truck was the first International Harvester truck to feature automobile-like styling. The C-series trucks sported a V-type aluminium grille and slanted windows and were powered by a six-cylinder, 213-cubic-inch engine. With an output of 78 horsepower, the C-1 International Harvester had a production output of 75,000 units and is a landmark in International Harvester history. Now, the classic 1934 International Harvester C-series light-duty truck is recreated in a 1:43 scale die-cast replica produced by - and available only from - Matchbox Collectibles. |
